We have been looking forward to photographing Kalyn and Jett’s wedding for a long time (a year and a half to be exact!) I was lucky enough to have two engagement sessions with this couple, one in the fall and one in the spring, and I have had so much fun every time I’m with them. Jett and Kalyn are the best couple to photograph because they don’t take themselves too seriously, and are also willing to “commit to the pose” during portraits. As a result, they always have a great time and come away with fantastic photos that really showcase their fun-loving personalities. Kalyn is very talented – she is a photographer herself, as well as a very gifted musician – and is extremely kind to everyone around her. I’ve noticed that Jett can make her laugh at any moment and I love that about him.
I enjoyed getting to meet their family and friends and can see where they get it all from. They had a large bridal party, who was also super easy to work with. They even had four “littles” in the party, which made me a bit nervous because I never know what to expect with kids, but they were all so fun to capture!
Kalyn and Jett had a very laid-back wedding day at Cloverleaf Farm and a gorgeous (and windy) outdoor ceremony. Their reception was also quite unique for several reasons, my favorite being a sparkler ENTRANCE into their reception!
Their guests all lined up with sparklers and cheered for the couple as they ran into their reception. Because of this they still looked great for that iconic sparkler photo (no sweat and no “tired” eyes), all of their guests were still present for it, and we still had just enough daylight left for me to capture a well-lit image. Not only did this make for a great photograph, but the couple didn’t have to pay extra to keep us through the end of the reception just to get that one picture – or interrupt the party for a faux exit. I don’t know why I’ve never thought of this before, but I am obsessed and I think that every couple should do this!
Other fun moments of their reception include Kalyn playing guitar and singing for her guests and later smashing cake in Jett’s face after winning their “who takes the cake” honeymoon fund race.
I loved reliving this perfect day while working on their photos – I’m so grateful they chose us to capture it! Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Bowen!
