Katie + John | Chimneys at Big Canoe | Wedding Photographer + Videographer

Wedding Photo, Wedding Video, Weddings

May 25, 2019

When Katie was young, she remembers sitting in her grandmother’s living room and watching her favorite movie: My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Years later, she met John in a genetics class at UGA, and before long they were talking for four hours over lunch at Cali ’n Tito’s. The rest is history––and now she’s has her own wonderful Greek groom and wedding!

Katie’s “fairy-themed” wedding came together perfectly – with her tiara, flowing dress, and sparkling eyes, Katie looked like a fairytale princess! She and John chose the Chimneys at Big Canoe for their venue, hoping that their spring wedding would be timed just right for the cherry blossoms to cover the trees––and they were not disappointed! The beautiful blooms covered the trees and created a picture-perfect backdrop for the day. The weather was perfect as well, which made up for their rainy engagement weekend in Asheville (read about that here – provide link). I’ve been looking forward to Katie and John’s wedding ever since that engagement session, because I saw then that they were go-with-the-flow, able to take changes and disappointments in stride and make the most of every situation. I’m so happy they had the perfect wedding day they deserved!

Evan and I loved how the couple decided to read letters and exchange gifts to each other at the first look before they saw each other. It made that moment even more special when they turned and saw one another in wedding finery for the first time. John melted, and the way he continued to look at Katie all day long was so full of love!

Some of our favorite details of the wedding day were the cocktail bar with personalized signature drinks (Queen Katherine, The Rugged Scotsman, Cherry Chak Attack) and the cake toppers of Katie and John’s adorable Scotty dogs, Sherlock and Watson. The venue’s courtyard filled up quickly with the couple’s family and friends, and dinner was followed by a fun-filled reception under twinkle lights and cherry blossom trees. The day was so beautiful, and we are thankful Katie chose us to capture it!
