I’ve been looking forward to Lauren and Andrew’s Wheeler House wedding since we shot a reception there in 2018. It is such a romantic little venue with a lot of character. Spring can be a risky time to get married – you never know what you’re going to get! Luckily, Lauren and Andrew were blessed with clear skies and cool weather – perfect for a wedding.
I joined Lauren and her bridesmaids as they finished getting ready. They were having a blast and Lauren’s friends kept us all laughing all day long. They did exactly what a good bridal party is supposed to do – made Lauren feel beautiful and loved, made sure she looked perfect, and kept her calm and happy until it was time for the first look.
Lauren and Andrew are clearly happiest when they’re together, so I’m really glad they opted to extend their time together by taking portraits before the ceremony. It was also really helpful to capture all their portraits before the guests arrived and scattered across the venue! I love all the different backdrops the Wheeler House has to offer – the big barn, the elegant white house, and the romantic ceremony framing. Lauren and Andrew looked stunning in all three!
As the guests began to arrive, the couple and their bridal party tucked away in the house and we photographed all the little details that make up a wedding event. I loved Lauren and Andrew’s approach to details – simple and meaningful. Instead of spending a ton of money on flowers with a short life, they created beautiful faux bouquets that filled the venue with color. And instead of little trinkets for favors, they donated brand new teddy bears to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where Andrew volunteers. Guests also had the option to purchase stuffed animals on their registry. I love that they took this opportunity to do something good and help others – that says all you need to know about Lauren and Andrew and the life they are making together!
The ceremony gave way to a fun cocktail hour and reception featuring an Athenamosa bar from Creature Comforts – something everyone from Athens knows and loves! It was particularly special for me to capture the first dance. As I mentioned in their engagement blog, I first met Andrew on a dance team in college. I never imagined that I would one day photograph him ballroom dancing with his bride!
Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Cowan – I look forward to seeing how you continue to serve and love your community together!
