If you’ve been following our blog for a while now, you know that we do lots of nature-themed engagement sessions. We have loved exploring all the parks and trails and creeks around Metro-Atlanta with our wedding clients the past few months (and years!) When Heather and I began planning her engagement session with Hunter, she knew she wanted to go hiking and have a session that reflected their love for the outdoors.

I gave them the list of parks that we typically shoot at, and she loved them, but we really wanted to find a waterfall to play in and we don’t have many of those around us. Evan and I had recently travelled through Chattanooga back in August, and had spent the day talking about how cool it would be to shoot a portrait session at Cloudland Canyon! Heather loved the idea, so we spent a beautiful fall Sunday afternoon hiking around Cloudland Canyon with this sweet couple!

Heather and Hunter were the perfect fit for this location! They braved the many many stairs down to the base of the main waterfall (though I think I was the only one breathing extra hard on the way up.) And to my delight, they were totally willing to wade right into the pool at the the base of the fall – making my photographer dreams come true! We had so much fun playing in the water!

We had originally hoped for an array of autumn leaves, but with Georgia’s late change this year, almost all of the trees were still green. While Evan did the ring details shots, Heather and Hunter and I found the one orange tree in the park and took as many shots in front of it as we could. I love getting creative with what we’re given!

It was a beautiful, well-spent October day and I’m so glad Heather and Hunter made the trip with us! We can’t wait to photograph their wedding in the summer!
