“At the end of the day people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel.” – Maya Angelou
This quote by Maya Angelou about sums up what I want to say about Virginia and Austin. I’ve been fortunate enough to hang out with this couple and talk on the phone quite a bit this year while we planned their wedding, and I can’t recall everything we talked about, but I will always remember how they made me and everyone around them feel. These are the people that make everyone feel loved and valued and interesting. Like you are their friend first and hired vendor second. We enjoyed their wedding immensely, and not just because they encouraged us to eat and sip and dance with them, but because these are easy people to celebrate.
Virginia and Austin met in a group Bible study at Athens First United Methodist Church – they drew each other’s names as prayer partners and Austin quickly got her number…ya know, to ask her for prayer requests. (wink wink). They began dating pretty quickly and their love for Jesus and others became the foundation for their relationship and eventual marriage.
The couple had their wedding in Columbus, GA – Virginia’s mom’s hometown. We met up with the girls at her mom’s house and got to play with the family dogs. Virginia’s mom had an adorable cocker spaniel puppy and we finally got to meet the couple’s dog, Maverick, who couldn’t make it to the engagement session as planned.
They got married at Trinity Episcopalian Church, where Virginia was baptized as a baby. It was a gorgeous church with beautiful stained glass windows bookending the sanctuary. The day got really interesting when a rain cloud swept in after the ceremony and left us with a ten minute window to get all of the bride and groom portraits – but Virginia and Austin handled it like champs! Virginia even laughed when the wind whipped her veil our of her hair.
The night ended with a fun reception at the Columbus Trade Center – a cool historical venue with lots of rustic charm. The couple had signature cocktails and delicious food, just like Austin promised. And everyone was surprised, Virginia included, when her old dance team invited her to the middle for an Irish step dance.
Mr. and Mrs. Suggs – Congratulations and thank you so much for choosing us to capture your wedding day! It has been such a joy getting to know you two and we wish you a lifetime of happiness together!
