When I close my eyes, I can still feel the atmosphere relax as Jennifer sat in the Decatur Courthouse, playing the aged grand piano, rain falling lightly outside. I smiled as Jennifer sat in her wedding dress, filling the air with lovely music. It felt like deja vu, to be honest; I met Jennifer my freshman year of college at the UGA Baptist Collegiate Ministry, where she used to pass the time between classes tickling the ivories of the beat-up old upright in the BCM chapel.
It always means so much to me when friends from the past ask us to capture their weddings. Jennifer is one of the most positive and upbeat people I know and I was thrilled to be there for her wedding day! Her husband, Matthew, was made for her – with a silly and fun outlook on life, he is always making Jennifer laugh.
I knew that about Matthew from doing their engagement session (see it here), but I got to see a whole new sentimental side of Matthew on their wedding day that I loved even more. After their first look, Matt surprised Jennifer with a private foot washing ceremony outside the courthouse. Though I was a distance away, I overheard him telling her that he plans to serve her as Jesus demonstrated, as long as they live. Later in the day, I had the couple slow dance by a window for a few shots, and Matthew began singing their first dance song in Jennifer’s ear. She made him stop because she was tearing up! I loved capturing these sweet little intimate moments that they were able to share before the ceremony!
I am also so grateful they chose to do a first look because we were dodging the rain for most of the afternoon, but we were able to get all of their portraits done right before the showers hit! The bridal party was so fun and laughed with us as we squeezed onto the steps of the courthouse for their portraits. Once that was done, we were able to enjoy the peaceful rain from inside and everything worked out just perfectly!
The inside of the Decatur Courthouse was STUNNING and we adored the white marble and touches of roses that Jennifer decorated with. It made for a gorgeous ceremony backdrop and large dance floor! I was especially impressed with the enthusiastic dance moves provided by Jennifer’s dad and Matthew’s brothers.
It was very evident from the wedding day alone that Jennifer and Matthew are in for a wonderful life full of Jesus and laughter! Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Souders! We love you!
