December 20, 2017
Evan and I met Katie and Nick in February 2017 and I remember we sat and talked to them for a long time about totally non-wedding things. Katie grew up in Gwinnett County, where she is now an elementary school Special Education teacher and now they are living in Athens where we all went to school at some point or another. We were sharing different stories about our past homes and neighborhoods when we put the pieces together to realize that the four of us actually lived in the same apartment complex in Duluth at one point. It’s a shame we never ran into each other because Katie and Nick would have been great neighbors and friends!
We are so grateful our paths crossed again when they hired us to photograph and video their wedding, because it has been such a blast to get to know this couple. They have been together for six and half years now and I love how comfortable and easy their relationship is. They met at West Georgia, where her sorority shared a backyard with his fraternity – they met at a party and have been enjoying life together ever since.
Katie and Nick hoped for a fun, stress-free wedding day, and I really enjoyed planning with them because they were so laid back and willing to go with the flow from day one. There were several little details and moments that we were able to capture because the couple created plenty of breathing room in their timeline. Their family surrounded them all day and Katie and Nick invited them to be a part of every moment. Katie wore a ring that belonged to her Great-Grandmother and has been worn by all the sisters in her family. The two mothers watched the First Look with an arm around one another, and Nick’s father officiated their wedding and beamed at the two of them the whole time.
I loved getting to see Katie’s personality come to life as she spent time with her friends and family – this girl has got a seriously sassy and goofy personality that had our whole team laughing all day long. Even as I culled and edited their photos, I found myself laughing out loud at all the over the top model poses Katie was striking to amuse my second shooter, Kevin. The entire day was fun, from getting ready, to their reception.
There were also so many sentimental moments throughout the day that added so much depth and emotion. Nick had the sweetest reaction I’ve ever seen during their First Look and then again during the ceremony when Katie walked down the aisle. (A good reminder that first looks don’t take away from that moment – they really do enhance them and remove the nerves that often make grooms tense during that moment!) It was laughter through tears all day long – our favorite emotion. 🙂
Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas! It has been our joy to serve you!
