Day 6-breaking my heart

Personal, Words

May 18, 2010

Back to the Dominican Republic today. About an 8 hour drive with the 2.5 hours stuck in the border. It was great to get on Facebook at the Robert’s house and talk to my friends again. I’ve missed them so much. We’ll be flying out tomorrow afternoon.

Overall, this trip was not what I expected and seems a little disappointing in some senses if I’m being honest, but it was very much a good lesson to me that it’s not about me and my expectations or hopes. Sam and Deloras were a blessing to get to know. They’ve been living in Haiti for 10 years and just relocated closer to Port-au-Prince 2 weeks ago. They truly are amazing, selfless people and spending the week with them has been so good for my heart.

I pray that this trip will not end when we land in the Atlanta airport tomorrow and that God will continue to chang my heart and grow in me the heart of a servant. I pray that God continues to guide me on the path He has set before me. I pray that He continues to bless the Roberts and Sam and Deloras and all of the missionaries who will set foot in that compound and for the people of Haiti. That they would get the help they need physically and spiritually.

 Broken Heart

Watching another skyline disappear in the rearview
A city not of towers, but of cardboard
Watching another nation fade below my window
flying home over another ocean shore

I scatter more pieces of my heart
across the nations sof this earth
I’ll leave another fragment of it here
with these people and this view
The wind has swept my footprints away
but I’ll be back again someday
Until then I’ll break my heart in two
and leave the other half here with you

How much of my heart can I give away
before there is nothing left to take?
How many children can make it break
before the pieces crumble away?
How many nations can kidnap my soul
before leaving nothing but an empty hole?
How many hands can my own two hold
before they’re too full to hold my own soul?

I scatter more pieces of my heart
across the nations of this earth
I’ll leave another fragment of it here
with these people and this view
The wind has swept my footprints away
but I’ll be back again someday
Until then, I’ll break my heart in two
and leave the other half here with you.

Until that day, I’ll give myself away
but as I give, I will also take
For the Lord is my Lover and He gives to me
His own heart when I give mine away

So I’ll break my heart in two
and leave the other half here with you
and He’ll give back and make it brand new
